When ordering your full hydraulic steering, first you need to measure your axles to see how far it travels left to right. This will determine the ram length you will need to buy.

The ram must stop at the same time as the axle, not one before the other. This stops the ram from damaging the axle, and it helps the pump work better, by feeling a hard stop.

This allows the check valve to drop to the bottom of its port, fully opening the bypass hold in the pump, which is the kind of performance you will want from your pump.
